A beta version of Tanky-Tank is available for Linux operating systems. This version has been tested to work correctly on Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 (both 32- and 64-bit versions) with nVidia graphics drivers but should run fine on other properly-configured systems. We recommend a 64 MB video card or better (with up-to-date video drivers), but you can probably still play fine with less.
Warning!!! The makers of Tanky-Tank take no responsibility for any damage that the below downloads may cause to your computer, even though we've never ever had any problems.
Prerequisites:
- mono (2.0+ recommended, winforms required)
- OpenGL (libGL.so.1)
- SDL (libSDL-1.2.so.0)
- OpenAL (libopenal.so.1) (The open-source software implementation of OpenAL for Linux platforms is called "OpenAL Soft".)
Instructions:
- Install the above prerequisites.
- Download tanky-tank-0.10.5.tar.gz.
- Extract the TAR to wherever you please.
- Run the "tanky-tank" executable shell script included in the files you just extracted.
- Have fun!
Notes:
- On some distributions, the default OpenAL "refresh" setting is too high thus resulting in a noticeable delay in the sound effects. You can lower this setting by editing your /etc/openal/alsoft.conf and reducing the "refresh" setting. 2048 seems to work well.
- Tanky-Tank stores preferences individually for each user. The file containing these preferences is located at ~/.local/share/Tanky-Tank/Settings.txt. If you adjust your settings and find that you can no longer play Tanky-Tank, try deleting that Settings.txt file or edit it in a text editor.
- Mono uses a garbage collector that is vastly inferior to that used in Microsoft's .Net Framework. Thus, you may experience the occasional hiccup during play. An improved garbage collector is being developed but its release date is unknown.
